San Juan Capistrano, California, USA – January 16, 2014. PMA Research, the worldwide market information experts on front projectors, has published their latest report on current use experiences and purchase intentions for home theater projectors. PMA’s large-scale survey of U.S. consumer owners and shoppers covered detailed topics such as projector use for watching movies, watching sports, and for gaming, whether the projector is used in the family room or a dedicated home theater room, and expected image sizes for future projector purchases.
“This year’s survey showed another uptick from previous surveys in the percentage of consumers who plan to buy a home theater projector,” said Rosemary Abowd, Senior Analyst at PMA Research. “This suggests that as consumers are looking at larger size Flat Panel TVs, they’re realizing that home theater projectors offer the most-compelling price-performance choices for truly big-screen viewing. And when we surveyed consumers who own both a projector and flat panel TV, they clearly showed a preference for their projector when it comes to watching movies and sports. About 80% preferred a projector over a flat panel TV for movies, and about 60% preferred a projector over a flat panel TV for sports.”
Another key finding from PMA’s report is that ambient light is becoming less of a concern for consumers. Projector manufacturers have been steadily increasing brightness output for home theater projectors, and more casual, daytime use of home projectors in family rooms and living rooms has been steadily rising. At the same time, manufacturers continue to offer a complete range of models serving step-up buyers as well as the most discerning consumers with dedicated home theater rooms.
