San Juan Capistrano, California – September 23, 2021. PMA Research (PMA), the worldwide market information experts on large displays, have published their latest sell-through tracking report on large-format (32-inch and larger) flat panel displays being sold by leading U.S. AV, PC and IT Distributors who typically serve commercial markets.
Unit sales and revenues for professional large-format displays and consumer TVs sold through the U.S. distribution channel edged slightly higher in August after a soft July. Higher revenues were driven by rising prices and stronger sales of professional displays which sell at higher price points than consumer televisions.
Unit sales and revenues of professional televisions rose by single digits. These displays include a digital tuner and extended warranties for business use. Much of this volume was sold into the education market with some also going into the retail market as bars and restaurants expanded seating and prepared for more outdoor options.
Counter to the overall market trend, where prices for most professional flat panel displays and consumer TVs has been on the rise, pricing for professional TVs were still below 2020 prices. The most popular screen sizes of 55-inch, 65-inch and 43-inch all sold at an average of 10% below August 2020 price levels.
By comparison, the four top-selling LCD consumer television sizes, (55-inch, 65-inch, 50-inch, and 43-inch) which accounted for nearly half of the Consumer television volume, have seen prices rising anywhere from 8% to 50% in August.
