San Juan Capistrano, California – February 25, 2021. PMA Research (PMA), the worldwide market information experts on large displays, has published their latest All-Displays sell-through tracking report on professional large-format flat panel displays (32” and larger) and professional projectors (above 500 lumens) being sold by leading U.S. Distributors who serve commercial markets.
The unit volume improvements seen late in the second quarter of 2020 continued into the second half of the year as sales improved markedly when compared to 2Q2020. Fourth quarter sales were nearly flat compared with third quarter, movement that was counter to the usual trend of a much softer fourth quarter versus third quarter.
The mix between projectors and large flat panel displays shifted further toward flat panel displays in the second half of the year. This happened, in part, because two key segments for projection, entertainment venues and education, were partially closed or shifted to online delivery. Many display projects were delayed, and budget resources were either saved or shifted to more pressing needs.
In addition, inexpensive professional TVs doubled market share in the 65-inch and 75-inch product segments. Pricing pressure forced even lower prices for professional TVs in the 60” and 70” categories.
While monthly trends in 2020 mirrored the stops-and-starts of the economy through the pandemic shutdowns and re-openings, they also quantitatively confirmed the general industry consensus that there was a continued strengthening of the professional AV business as 2020 ended.
PMA’s monthly All-Displays Distributor Tracking report offers timely sell-through data and analysis on unit sales and market trends of projectors and large-format flat panel displays sold by leading U.S. AV and IT Distributors. These reports are ideal for tracking product and channel trends.
