San Juan Capistrano, California – September 27, 2019. PMA Research (PMA), the worldwide market information experts on large displays, has published their latest sell-through tracking report on large-format (32” and larger) flat panel displays being sold by leading N. American Pro AV dealers and Systems Integrators who serve commercial markets.
Sales of large-format flat panel displays sold through the North American Pro AV channel rebounded in August, helped by a strong finish to the buying season for the education market. Unit volume and revenues both saw solid double-digit gains over July, and both were ahead of August 2018 by 30%.
Revenues for displays with screen sizes 90” and above, including single-screen displays and tiled installations, increased mildly from July and were up more than 60% from August last year. Eighteen percent of August revenues were from sales in this category.
August unit sales and revenues for touch-enabled models more than doubled from August last year. The top-selling size in the Interactive category was 75-inch. One-third of all displays sold by the Pro AV channel in August had interactive capabilities. However, average selling prices in August were 13% lower year-over-year for touchscreen displays due to several specialty brands competing for share in the education market.
Also notable in August were sales for displays featuring built-in System-on-Chip (SoC) computing architecture. These models increased more than 10% over July in unit volume and more than 20% in revenues. Year-over-year these increases more than tripled. Nearly half of all the displays sold in August were equipped with this feature.
PMA’s monthly Pro AV Flat Panel Tracking report offers timely sell-through data and analysis on unit sales and true volume-weighted selling prices of large-format displays sold by leading Professional Audio-Visual Dealers in North America.
