Taiwanese projector maker Vivitek recently debuted two new projectors. The D5280U produces 4500 ANSI lumens at WUXGA (1920×1200) resolution with 2,200:1 contrast ratio. The new DLP based model offers three interchangeable lenses and will be available in 2012Q4 at a suggested retail price of US$5,499.

The DLP- based D8800 produces 8,000 lumens at WUXGA (1920×1200) resolution with 3000:1 contrast ratio and features dual lamps, interchangeable lenses, and optional interchangeable color wheels to accommodate diverse applications and installations. The D8800 will be available in 2012Q3 at a suggested retail price of US$19,999.

Recent projector market research published by Pacific Media Associates shows that on a value basis, WUXGA projectors were the only resolution to show solid gains on a year/year comparison. Based on these findings, the new Vivitek models should be well received.
