Sony has announced that their newest 3LCD installation laser projectors – the 12,000 lumen VPL-FHZ120L and the 9,000 lumen VPL-FHZ90L – are available for pre-order. These large-venue models are designed for use in conference settings, lecture halls, galleries, museums, rental and staging and visitor attractions. These two new models feature a laser/phosphor light source and the VPL-FHZ120L employs a newly developed 1-inch 3LCD panel and optical compensator so the projector covers 100% of the sRGB color gamut, making it suitable for applications found in exhibitions and museums that require precise color reproduction.
In addition, these new models have a wide lens shift adjustment range, and multiple interchangeable lens options for installation flexibility. Sony’s laser light source boasts up to 14,000 hours of reliable operation at 10,000 lumen brightness with the VPL-FHZ120L, and 14,000 hours at 8000 lumen brightness with the VPL-FHZ90L, with virtually no discernible drop-off in image quality or brightness.
Both the VPL-FHZ120L and the VPL-FHZ90L are WUXGA (1920×1200) resolution and come standard with keystone correction, horizontal and vertical lens shift and both powered and manual zoom capabilities (depending on lens choice). These Sony projectors also offer a wide variety of connectivity options which include multiple RGB connections, DVI-D with support for HDCP, HDMI, HDBaseT and USB, making them extremely versatile for many rental and staging or large-venue applications. Finally, these models are available with either a black or white chasis.
Display market analyst firm PMA Research has been closely monitoring the new crop of high resolution laser/phosphor projectors and they have noted exponential growth in this product segment. These types of projectors have rejuvenated interest in the projector segment and are responsible for a strong percentage of manufacturer revenues in the projector market.
