At the CEDIA trade show in Indianapolis this week, Sony debuted the VPL-HW50ES projector, geared towards home theater enthusiasts. The new projector utilizes Sony’s SXRD™ (Silicon X-tal Reflective Display) technology, and leverages the same ‘Reality Creation’ processing that is found in their high-end 4K home theater projector. Additionally, the VPL-HW50ES has an Optimized Advanced Iris 3 algorithm and a new contrast enhancer technology.
The new 1080p projector is 1700 lumens and 240 Hz. It is also 3D ready (with optional TMR-PJ2 3D transmitter) and has 2D-to-3D conversion capabilities.
The VPL-HW50ES has 2 HDMI inputs, and IR input, and a host of standard analog inputs. here are also RJ45 and RS232 connections. This new home theater projector is also Control 4, AMX, Crestron and Savant control certified. Finally, the VPL-HW50ES comes with 9 pre-set picture calibration modes – including cinema, gaming and photo. The VPL-HW50ES includes two pair of rechargeable 3D glasses and an additional lamp. It will begin shipping in October through a network of high-end A/V specialists and custom installers for an MSRP of $3999.99.
In Pacific Media Associates most recent Consumer end-user survey, projector market research showed Sony scored high marks in projector brand recognition and projector brand purchase intentions. True home theater enthusiasts should be excited for the release of this new Sony projector.
