Sony Electronics introduced their newest true 4K HDR home theater projector models at the recent CEDIA trade show. The new line includes the entry-level VPL-VW285ES – a true 4K HDR projector for under $5,000.
The VPL-VW285ES supports 4K HDR signals at 60p with 10-bit depth for compatibility with gaming systems and high frame rate movies. This projector incorporates Sony’s TRILUMINOSTM DISPLAY technology which provides a broader color range and reproduces more tones and textures. The VPL-VW285ES come standard with a 2x motorized zoom lens. It also has a wide lens shift range, which can be adjusted 85% and 31% horizontally. This new home theater projector has 1,500 lumens of brightness and a 225-W lamp which can produce images up to 300″ diagonally.
The VPL-VW285ES uses Sony’s advanced SXRD panel technology to deliver native 4K (4096 x 2160) resolution images, with more than four times the detail of Full HD. It also features Sony’s exclusive Reality Creation technology to analyze images and employ pattern-matching algorithms to enhance crispness without increasing digital picture noise. It also upscales existing Full HD Blu-ray Disc™and DVD movies to near 4K quality.
Sony’s Motionflow™ technology creates and inserts extra frames between the original frames for smooth action sequences and True Theater 24p mode mimics true movie projection. Support for HDCP 2.2 allows for 4K viewing of movies from a wide range of devices and set-top boxes. The VPL-VW285ES is also 3D capable and comes standard with nine picture calibration modes.
The Sony VPL-VW285ES 4K HDR Home Theater Projector is currently shipping with an MSRP of $4,999.99.
Analyst firm PMA Research tracks sales of Projectors through the retail channel. Recent results show that Home Theater projectors sales registered another year-over-year gain in August 2017.
