Samsung is getting back into the projector business with the announcement of two projectors in their Lifestyle product portfolio, which also includes The Frame, The Sero, and The Terrace flat panel TV’s. Unlike The Frame, The Sero, and The Terrace, the new LSP9T and the LSP7T models are ultra-short throw home entertainment projectors which will be positioned to sell into the growing Laser TV market.
Dubbed The Premiere, these Laser TV projectors will be available with the capability of producing a 130-inch (LSP9T) or a 120-inch (LSP7T) image on a wall or screen. The Premier projectors offer 4K resolution and are powered by a laser light source. The Premiere LSP9T is the world’s first HDR10+ certified projector and offers up to 2,800 ANSI lumens. Samsung touts The Premiere as the first projector in the world to support the ‘active’ HDR10+ format, with its extra scene by scene picture data, as well the more standard ‘static’ HDR10 and HLG formats. Both projectors also support the UHD Alliance’s new Filmmaker Mode, which introduces picture settings designed to deliver movies as the director intended.
These smart projectors come equipped with Samsung’s Smart TV platform to support streaming video apps from major content partners, as well as mobile connectivity features such as Tap View and mirroring. Samsung’s new projectors come standard with an audio solution complete with built-in woofers and Acoustic Beam technology. Samsung claims this will create a true surround sound effect without the need for rear speakers. The Premiere projectors feature an all-in-one compact, space-saving design. Because of the ultra-short-throw capabilities, The Premiere can be placed just inches from the wall or screen. It is designed with an an easy-to-install set up in mind, and has fabric finishes around its edges to make it more aesthetically pleasing.
Samsung plans a first ship date in time for the holiday shopping season, but no pricing has been announced yet. It also isn’t clear yet if The Premier projectors will be bundled with a screen, as other manufacturers of laser TV projectors have done.
