At this month’s CinemaCon 2021 tradeshow, GDC Technology Limited (‘GDC’), a provider of digital cinema solutions, announced it will enter the projector market with the official launch of its Espedeo Supra-5000 RGB Plus Laser Phosphor Cinema Projector from Espedeo Holdings Limited, a GDC company. GDC has been a mainstay in the Digital Cinema market, developing, manufacturing and selling digital cinema media servers, scalable cinema automation systems, and enterprise software solutions for Theater Management Systems and Cinema Network Operation Centers. Supra-5000 is the world’s smallest, quietest, and lightest ceiling-mounted DCI-compliant laser projector with powerful built-in features. It is specifically designed for in-auditorium installation (no hush box) in commercial mini-theatres and other venues such as private home cinemas, hotels, private screening rooms, and yachts.
The Supra-5000 has been designed for in-auditorium ceiling mount (no projection booth required) and features an air cooling system without exhaust. Its 5,000 lumen laser phosphor light engine utilizes ALPD 4.0 technology, achieving DCI colors and covers 99% of the Rec.2020 color gamut. The Supra 5000 Light engine and lens are designed with IP5X level of dustproof protection for maximizing brightness. The projector includes a built-in GDC All-in-One-Board designed with near-zero maintenance electronics and has tested for 100,000 Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF). There is a diskless CineCacheTM 2TB (built-in cache storage), allowing content download and playback cto be performed concurrently without local HDD storage. Incredibly fast ingest during playback. There is an optional built-in digital cinema audio processor to playback movie titles in uncompressed audio tracks.
The Supra-5000 supports GDC Cinema Automation 2.0 which enables the playback of thousands of movies and features an auto power-on/power-off for the projector’s laser according to the pre-set schedules. The projector also come standard with the Supra Command Center, an intuitive web-based control UI connected to the projector’s built-in Wi-Fi that can be accessed with a computer, a laptop or a tablet. From an aesthetic standpoint, there is an option to customize the magnetic cover to match the ceiling color of the cinema, home theater, auditorium or yacht.
Analyst firm PMA Research provides worldwide quarterly sell-in reports on Projectors covering Pico and Personal projectors, Mainstream projectors for business, education and home theater, to large venue projectors for rental & staging and digital cinema. Sales of laser-phosphor projectors have been growing steadily and account for a significant percentage of revenues in the worldwide projector market.
