FUJIFILM Corporation has announced the development of the world’s first projector equipped with a rotating FUJINON lens for multi-directional image projection. This announcement marks Fujifilm’s entrance into the projector market. The new Fujifilm projector is designed for digital signage deployments and spatial design projection in art galleries and museums, and for image projection on ceilings and floors.
The new projector features the world’s first “two-axial rotatable lens,” designed with FUJINON lenses’ proprietary optical technology. The lens can face up, down, front, rear, left and right to project images in various directions without having to move the main unit. This means it can project images not only on a wall or screen but also on the ceiling and floor. The projector can be placed horizontally or vertically to accommodate a variety of installation scenarios, and can easily switch between portrait and landscape modes. When positioned vertically, the projector should be used with the available stand to prevent it from tipping over. This new projector has a small footprint, and the lens can be folded in for storage and transport.
While other specs such as lumens and resolution are not yet available on this new projector, it does utilize and ultra-short throw lens which Fujifilm states will produce up to a 100-inch diagonal image from just 75 centimeters away. It also employs a laser-light source to ensure bright images and a long product-life. Fujifilm says that the projector will begin shipping in 2019 and they have not yet released the price for the unit.
Display market analyst firm PMA Research follows the projector market and their latest Worldwide Projector forecast predicts strong double-digit growth for the Ultra-Short-Throw projector market over the next few years. This is in part due to the increased use of projectors in Digital Signage applications, as well as use in public spaces such as art galleries and museums.
