At ISE 2018, Digital Projection, Inc. launched the Insight Dual Laser 8K projector. With a whopping 7,680 x 4,320 resolution, this new projector is designed for high-end applications requiring the maximum image detail possible, including medical, scientific, immersive visualization and large venue applications. At ISE the projector demo incorporated an Astra image processing receiver and was showing 8K content provided by NHK Japan.
The new projector delivers 25,000 lumens of brightness and features solid-state laser illumination. The Insight Dual Laser 8K uses DLP technology incorporating three 1.38 inch DarkChip DMDs and Digital Projection’s ColorMax technology for life-like color accuracy and deep black levels. These features make the projector ideal for edge-blending and projection mapping applications. The Insight Dual Laser 8K also employs Multi-axis capability and has a range of lenses available, which means that it can be deployed in landscape, portrait or almost any orientation.
The new DPI projector comes with Projector Controller software to allow full management and operation of multiple projectors from a single centralized PC-based application. Ideal for use in large installations or where projectors are installed in multiple locations within a building, the software can dramatically reduce the time required for set up and configuration.
The Insight Dual Laser is targeted to ship in Q4 2018. Formal pricing has not yet been announced, but the unit is expected to carry a hefty price tag.
Analyst firm PMA Research follows the projector market. While to total projector market was relatively flat in 2017, laser illuminated projectors were a bright spot. Though they only accounted for about 5% of the units shipped, their revenues accounted for about 25% of the market. This is mainly due to the fact that laser illuminated projectors are typically high bright, high resolution models carrying heftier price tags than traditional lamp-based projectors.
