At this week’s CinemaCon tradeshow, Cinionic unveiled additions to its laser projector portfolio with their new Barco Series 4 and Laser Light Upgrade (LLU) models. Cinionic,a joint venture between Barco, China Film Group and Appotronics, launched in 2018 with the mission of furthering the use of laser projector technology in the cinema industry. To that end, Cinionic announced this week that they will make the move to an all-laser Digital Cinema portfolio. In a related announcement, AMC Theaters outlined its first major projector upgrade since the transition to digital. The “Laser at AMC” campaign is a commitment to convert 3,500 screens in the United States to Cinionic laser projectors by 2025.
The new SP2K-20 and SP2K-25 utilize Cinionic’s next-generation laser projection platform and expands the Series 4 2K offerings from 6,000 to 23,000 lumens. Barco Series 4 projectors feature the latest TI chipsets with contrast levels up to 2300:1. They employ Barco Active Image Management™ (Barco AIM™) which encompasses a series of patented technologies to guarantee a consistent and high image quality over the projector’s lifetime. Series 4 projectors also use Barco Colorgenic™ technology to utilize the full P3 color space on the SP2K models. The Series 4 platform is also upgrade ready to be compatible with the latest immersive audio technologies available.
The integrated Series 4 projection system delivers energy-efficient performance up to 11.5 lumens per watt, which Barco states will result in a 50% savings compared to Xenon projectors. In addition, the Series 4 sleep mode consumes just 3 watts an hour, further reducing energy consumption. This remote wake-up function allows for network-programmed scheduled maintenance or content ingest. The new product design features a separate air flow to ensure that extra cleaned air goes to the most critical optical components. The washable and reusable filters are easily replaced by cinema personnel. Finally, these laser cinema projectors are equipped with the latest evolution in sealing technology. Contamination cannot reach the optics so no image deterioration will occur.
The fully integrated Laser Light Upgrade solution transforms older Series 2 projectors into laser projectors. This upgradable laser solution also features a full projector warranty for up to 5 years, extending the life of the current projector and immediately offering theater owners a seamless upgrade to laser.
