BenQ recently announced their new HDR gaming projector, the BenQ TH685. This new home entertainment projector is geared towards gaming enthusiasts, as it offers a low input lag for enhanced speed while gaming. The TH685 also has a Game Picture Mode to create one-of-a-kind visuals on a much larger scale. In addition, the TH685 projector is equipped with a Trevolo Audio system to provide users with a realistic and immersive sound experience.
The TH685 is a 1080p DLP projector with a 10,000:1 contrast ratio. Featuring more dynamic color range, the TH685 is HDR compatible via HDMI 2.0, allowing the projector to showcase a more colorful and higher contrast ratio than SDR. The new projector also introduces an RGBW color wheel to achieve 95% of the Rec. 709 color space without any loss of brightness. For a dynamic immersive experience, the TH685 utilizes a 5W Trevolo Speaker which includes EQ Adjustment.
Designed for gamers who enjoying console gaming on a big screen, the TH685 has a low input lag of 8.3 milliseconds (at 1080p/120 Hz) and is fully compatible with Sony PS4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One X and Google Stadia. The TH685 also offers six pre-set modes, including Game Mode, which creates higher contrast and a fine-tuned gamma curve to allow gamers to see details more clearly in darker game settings. Additional connectivity includes USB-A and RS232.
At 3,500 lumen brightness, TH685 can be used in any ambient lighting without impacting the projected image. In addition to the high brightness, TH685 also includes BenQ’s exclusive LumiExpert technology, which automatically adjusts the projector’s brightness based on the ambient light in its direct surroundings. The 3D projector also has a digital vertical lens shift for flexible installation and offers15,000 lamp hours with LampSave mode.
BenQ’s TH685 is currently shipping with an MSRP of $799.
Display market analyst firm PMA Research has just published their 2020Q1 Worldwide Projector Census, which tracks worldwide projector unit shipments. Sales of all projectors declined nearly 30% when comparing the first quarter of 2019 to the first quarter of 2020. But the Consumer Home Entertainment projector market didn’t decline as much as the professional markets amid the onset of the worldwide Corona Virus outbreak. Unit sales of home theater projector models were down just 7% when comparing 1Q2019 to 1Q2020 shipments.
