Samsung has launched the Premier 5 interactive ultra-short throw projector in Korea, touting it as the world’s most compact laser ultra-short-throw interactive projector.
Touch operation on a tabletop is enabled by an infrared camera and an IR laser module, which track and register up to 10 simultaneous touch points within the projected rectangle. To use this mode, the unit needs to be mounted within an included support cradle.
When not in the cradle and being used for the interactive features, the Premiere 5 is a traditional compact UST projector designed for home entertainment. Gamers benefit from access to Samsung’s Gaming Hub. There is an AI Auto mode for quick optimization, and the display can handle a 32:9 for more immersive gameplay. Finally, Dynamic Black brings detail to the shadows. Placed close to a wall or screen, the Premiere 5 produces a 100-inch diagonal image at 1080p resolution.
The laser light engine produces 560 ISO lumens, and Samsung’s Vision Booster technology detects the ambient lighting conditions and auto adjusts color, contrast and brightness for the viewing environment.
The projector runs Tizen with TV Plus and AirPlay integration, plus there’s built-in SmartThings control. It covers 154% of the DCI-P3 color gamut, supports HDR+ and HLG content, and boasts 450,000:1 dynamic contrast. Setup is easy with autofocus, auto keystone correction and fit-to-screen features.
There a two HDMI ports, including one with audio return, plus USB-C, Bluetooth 5.2 and Wi-Fi5.
The unit includes a dual 10-watt speaker system for 360-degree sound and Atmos immersion. The projector can also serve as a Bluetooth speaker. Additionally, he Bluetooth remote has a solar cell on its back to top off the internal battery and there is a USB-C port for quick charges.
The Premiere 5 has launched in South Korea for KRW 1.85 million. (approximately $1,300 USD). Availability outside of Korea has not yet been announced.
