Twice a year, Hong Kong is home to a huge electronics fair where buyers from around the world come to see the latest in small electronics. Two years ago PMA saw hundreds of Pico Projector companies exhibiting – both manufacturers of finished projectors, as well as many supply-chain manufacturers.
At the 2013 show it was noted that several manufacturers had emerged as the leaders among the Chinese Pico projector manufacturers. Aiptek, Foryou, Top Provision, Ultmost, CRE and NCUD were the predominant projector exhibitors at the show. Here are a few of the highlights.
At the show, Aiptek projectors were focused on Mobile Cinema applications, and their models include stand-alone units as well as “sled” models for use with iPhone and Android phones. Models range from 35 to 100 lumens, and their flagship V100 is WXGA resolution.
Ultmost has expanded beyond just pico and personal projector manufacturing and was showing an SXRD home theater model, as well as an “all-in-one” business and classroom unit which combines a computer, document viewer, sound system and interactive capabilities into one device.
CRE Electronics showcased their “worlds first” 1080p, 3LCD/3LED, 3,000 lumen projector, which uses Epson panels and Luminus LED’s.
PMA Research has been following the Pico and Personal projector space from the beginning. As the market for these units matures, and the capabilities of these smaller units improve, PMA Research has forecast steady growth for this segment.
