Laser pico projector maker MicroVision announced that the SHOW WX+ HDMI has begun shipping. First introduced in July, the new model features an HDMI input, enabling easier connection to tablets, DVD players, smartphones, and other devices with HDMI outputs. The new projector also includes an Apple certified interface for iPhones, iPods and iPads. The SHOW WX+ HDMI carries a suggested retail price of US$369 and is available through the MicroVision online store, Amazon.com, and other resellers.
Pacific Media Associates’ projector market research indicates that projectors using lasers as an illumination source will remain constrained due to the shortage of green lasers and their high cost. This issue, which affects a number of New Era manufacturers, is expected to ease considerably in 2012 as direct diode green lasers begin to emerge.
