Swiss MEMS developer Lemoptix has released the MVIEW optical engine for licensing. The optical engine produces 10 lumens at WVGA (854×480) resolution with 5,000:1 contrast ratio. MVIEW, which measures 5mm x 12mm x 25mm and displaces 1.5cc, uses RGB lasers and a single MOEMS scanning mirror to display focus free images. In addition to pico projectors, Lemoptix claims that MVIEW has been validated by several companies for use in automotive HUD systems.
Lemoptix also announced a long-term collaboration agreement with Japanese optoelectronics firm Hamamatsu Photonics to develop and commercialize MOEMS laser scanning and microprojection devices.
While laser beam scanning (LBS) projectors have appeared in PMA’s projector market research for some time, few production models have reached the market yet due to the scarcity and expense of green lasers.
