Compound Photonics announced that it has agreed to acquire the commercial laser technology assets of Alfalight, Inc. Compound Photonics develops full HD laser projection light engines based on LCOS imagers, high power laser diode components, and a pico projector sized 4K (4,096×2,160) optical engine. In late 2007, Compound Photonics acquired the LCOS operations of Syntax-Brillian, including manufacturing equipment, inventory and intellectual property.
Alfalight develops and manufactures semiconductor and diode pumped solid state lasers. In addition to the commercial products acquired by Compound Photonics, the company serves defense and aerospace markets. While Alfalight’s product line includes short-wave infrared (SWIR) and near infrared (NIR) lasers, Compound Photonics is likely most interested in Alfalight’s visible lasers, which are said to include a green laser suitable for Pico projectors.
