Japanese Camcorder, Personal Media Player (PMP) and Projector maker Aigo has introduced a personal standalone projector they are marketing as a “Cloud Projector” for use with Social Media. The new projector uses a DLP imager and LEDs to produce 300 Lumens at XGA (1,024×768) resolution with 1,000:1 contrast ratio. Bundled with the projector is online (Cloud) storage that the user can access directly from the projector’s WinCE 6.0 computer via built-in Wi-Fi. The WinCE web browser enables access to popular social media sites. A built-in PMP can display popular image, video and office files from online storage, microSD card slot or miniUSB connection. HDMI and AV inputs are also included. Aigo offers two versions of the projector, the PT6316L, which is bundled with 10GB of online storage (free for the first 3 months and US$2.70 per month after that), and the PT6316S which is bundled with 100GB (free for the first year and US$14.32 per month after that). Japanese e-Shop Exemode is currently taking pre-orders for the PT6316L for US$637 and the PT6316S for US$1,021. The anticipated date of delivery was not disclosed.
Pacific Media Associates’ projector market research has cataloged a number of New Era projectors with onboard computers and wireless connectivity, but these new models from Aigo are the first to combine those features with an online service as a market differentiator.
