Panasonic’s flagship 4K OLED TV, the GZ2000, has been designed by the collaborative efforts of their R&D engineers along with audio engineers from Technics and a top Hollywood colorist. The result is no ordinary television but rather, a Professional Edition that offers some highly specialized features.
Panasonic builds the GZ2000 by starting with an LG OLED panel removed from the production line early in order to customize it. One of the customized features is an unspecified increase in the panel’s brightness levels. Panasonic R&D engineers accomplished this through their custom power management and cooling solutions. The GZ2000 supports HDR10+ and Dolby Vision HDR as well as HLG Photo, the new still image format with HDR image quality. The average brightness level has been boosted and contrast management has been improved, resulting in increased dynamic range and more impactful HDR content. The GZ2000 also features the ‘CalMAN PatternGen’, which means that the CalMAN software can generate the patterns required for auto-calibration, with no external pattern generator needed.
The GZ2000’s HDR OLED panel is enhanced by Panasonic’s HCX PRO Intelligent Processor, which rapidly analyses and optimizes the color, contrast and clarity of 4K video content. Featuring a faster Dynamic LUT, the GZ2000 is Panasonic’s best TV for displaying the correct color for every brightness level, even when they vary rapidly within a scene. The HCX PRO Intelligent Processor is also compatible with multiple formats of dynamic HDR metadata and ensures that viewers experience the best possible images regardless of their source.
The GZ2000 is offered in 55” and 65” screen sizes, with an OLED panel further optimized by the color-tuning skills of Stefan Sonnenfeld. Sonnenfeld is a trusted collaborator of some of the world’s best filmmakers and has been described by NPR as a “da Vinci of the movies”. Sonnenfeld has applied his colorist skills to many of the top movies of the past decade such as “A Star is Born;” “Wonder Woman;” “Man of Steel;” “Beauty and the Beast;” “Star Wars: The Force Awakens;” and many more. Sonnenfeld uses Panasonic OLED screens as large-format client reference monitors in his work.
The GZ2000 also boasts built-in upward-firing speakers capable of delivering Dolby Atmos® immersive audio at home with ease and convenience. Despite its thin profile, the GZ2000 delivers a dynamic output complemented by a powerful bass. The total sound system has also been tuned by engineers from Panasonic’s audio brand, Technics. It uses multiple speaker units to produce an immersive spherical soundstage with Dolby Atmos content and features Technic’s proprietary JENO engine for accurate, refined sound.
The GZ2000 features Panasonic’s new My Home Screen 4.0, with a non-obstructing bottom menu, which allows viewers to tailor the TV user interface to their own preferences with more flexibility. Also, with support for voice assistants, the GZ2000 can integrate seamlessly with many smart home systems such as Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa, allowing users to operate some key TV functions just using their voice.
According to PMA Research, the leader in large-format display market data, average selling prices for 4K OLED TVs have held steady over the past year with a 38% increase in unit volume for 55” and 65” models combined.
