Upgrades were recently announced by NEC for their NC900C projector, which delivers 2K cinema quality video, with an image brightness of 14-ft-L (using a 1.8 gain screen) on screens up to 30ft/9m. The NC900C uses the new S2K chip set from Texas Instruments. NEC says the NC900C is the most compact 2K DCI-certified digital cinema projector on the market. An all-in-one Integrated Media Block and 2 TB RAID5 Storage Server streamline the set-up process with fewer peripheral devices required.

The key features of the NC900C digital cinema projector are:

• Resolution of 2048 x 1080
• Several lens options for zoom, focus and shift capabilities
• High-Frame Rate capability

The NC900C will begin shipping in December 2012. The estimated street price of the NC900C in North America is $29,999 and includes the projector, a lens and Integrated Media Server (IMS).

The latest projector market forecasts from Pacific Media Associates show that the digital cinema market is reaching saturation in developed countries. Future Digital Cinema growth needs to focus on developing countries and smaller theater chains and independents. To date costs to upgrade have kept them out of the market, so this is a good move by NEC to offer an affordable option.
