SeaWorld San Diego recently unveiled its Jewels of the Sea exhibit – an immersive AV experience designed to captivate, educate, and inspire. The collaboration between SeaWorld, AVI SPL | XTG, and digiLED produced a harmonious blend of technology, storytelling, and conservation. Guests journey through a glowing tunnel of moon jellies, explore their vital role in ocean ecosystems, and engage with one of the largest jellyfish habitats in the country. To help bring this vision to life, digiLED introduced the project to AVI-SPL’s experiential division, XTG, knowing their creative expertise would be a perfect match for this uniquely immersive challenge.
The result is an exhibit that seamlessly blends digital storytelling with living marine life. At the heart of the exhibit is 108 square meters of custom LED screens for immersive experiences that flow seamlessly from wall to ceiling, wrapping guests in vivid underwater visuals. Cleverly designed cutouts within the screen allow visitors to peer directly into the jellyfish tanks, placing them front and center in the experience. To achieve this, digiLED combined digiTHIN XS Q and digiFLEX UX, using six different panel sizes to ensure a perfect architectural fit.
Behind the scenes, digiLED’s digiLED ZEUS® system plays an important role – helping to reduce energy consumption to zero when the display is not in use. It was a vital tool in aligning with SeaWorld’s commitment to sustainability, without compromising performance. This exhibit isn’t just about technology – it’s about impact. Designed to deepen visitors’ appreciation for jellyfish and their role in marine ecosystems, the installation fuses interactive LED storytelling with live propagation tanks. It supports SeaWorld’s conservation messaging: that jellyfish aren’t just beautiful, they’re vital keystone species – and SeaWorld now breeds them in-house rather than sourcing from the wild.
Guests are given a unique perspective – whether through the live tanks, digital LED displays, or the immersive passage – connecting them more closely to marine science. This exhibit stands out not merely for its design but for the way it communicates conservation in a highly effective, memorable way.
